Elizabeth Marret

Kindergarten Teacher, St Gabriel’s School

A month after starting at St Gabriel’s in 2020, Elizabeth Marret found herself teaching her kindergarten class online in lockdown, which was, she admits, “a steep learning curve.” However, under expert care, and through creating powerful partnerships with parents, her students thrived. Elizabeth is recognised at St Gabriel’s for her dedication and expertise in serving students with diverse learning needs. Among her committed colleagues, Elizabeth stands out for her dedication to supporting students in their individual learning paths. With strong programming skills, she develops a Kindergarten curriculum that effectively engages students, providing them with a solid educational foundation. She believes in giving them the best possible start, helping them build success one small brick at a time.

Principal David Cook has observed Elizabeth’s effective teaching methods firsthand, noting her ability to connect with students and foster their growth. Elizabeth emphasises collaboration with parents to ensure consistency in students’ learning experiences. With a Master of Special Education and years of experience, she mentors younger teachers entering the field, sharing her knowledge and skills. She is excited that there appears to be an increase in the number of young people wanting to work with students with diverse learning needs.

Described as nurturing, experienced, and grounded, Elizabeth’s approach to teaching reflects these qualities. Throughout her career, she has focused on developing both academic and socio-emotional skills in her students with disabilities, ensuring they receive necessary support for success. Her positive relationships with students, families, and colleagues underscore her effective coaching and mentoring abilities. At St Gabriel’s, Elizabeth Marret plays a pivotal role in empowering students and colleagues to achieve their educational goals.
