Danielle Lough
Student Engagement Coordinator, Hills Grammar
“A ray of sunshine”.
Danielle Lough’s boundless energy and love for teaching and learning are truly inspiring. She is, as her principal Karen Yager says, “A ray of sunshine.” She eagerly volunteers to help students with various activities and motivates them to participate in external competitions. Leading the high-potential learner program from kindergarten to sixth grade, Danielle creates incredible opportunities for students. Recently, she organised a fascinating full-day event on understanding the stock exchange and engaging technology workshops. Danielle’s dedication and warmth have earned her the esteem of students, staff, and parents alike, “sprinkling a bit of sparkle into people’s days” and actively seeks opportunities for both colleagues and students to shine.
As the Student Engagement Coordinator, Danielle’s primary aim is to cultivate a sense of belonging and connectedness among students, ensuring they feel valued and appreciated within the school community. Collaborating closely with teachers, she provides support to students who may require additional assistance, always maintaining a positive outlook and seeing the best in everyone. In her role, Danielle is open and transparent with parents, actively listening to their concerns and ensuring they feel heard and understood.
With high expectations, Danielle stretches her students, infusing each interaction with optimism and hope. She seizes every opportunity and wholeheartedly embraces it, never losing sight of her passion for teaching. Recognising that mistakes are part of the learning process, Danielle embraces them as chances to improve and evolve. Over her 30-year teaching journey, she has learned that what sets a great teacher apart is their attitude, belief in their students, and dedication to continuous growth and development.
AISNSW and GANE are proud to present Danielle Lough in our series of celebrating teachers. We thank Danielle and Hills Grammar for sharing her story with us.
We firmly believe that recognising and paying tribute to exceptional educators is fundamental in nurturing an environment that consistently inspires and encourages the community.
