The Head of Sport is responsible for all Secondary Sport (Years 7–12) at the College, providing strategic and operational leadership, guiding a diverse team of staff and coaches, and ensuring all sporting experiences are safe, inclusive and foster personal development, teamwork, life skills and pride in College tradition.
3-year Promotional Appointment (2026 – 2028) + full time permanent teaching position – Commence Term 1, 2026.
This is a 3-point paid position with up to 0.6FTE time release for teaching applicants.

Reporting to the Director of Co-Curricular, this role is responsible for the overall coordination, direction and continuous improvement of all secondary sport operations, including staffing, facilities, scheduling, compliance, and program development. The Head of Sport (Secondary) leads a diverse team comprising the Assistant Head of Sport, Head of Football, Head of Rugby, Head of Athletic Development, Managers-in-Charge (MICs), coaches and support staff to deliver safe, inclusive and enriching sporting experiences that promote participation, excellence and personal development.
This role requires visible and active engagement beyond the classroom and school day, including attendance at weekday training sessions, weekend fixtures, and major College events. Through strong leadership, collaboration and example, the Head of Sport fosters a culture of commitment and belonging that reflects the pursuit of excellence and the spirit of St Patrick’s College.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide strategic leadership, direction and vision for the Secondary Sports Program (Years 7–12).
- Model and uphold the Catholic identity and Edmund Rice ethos of the College through sport.
- Lead, mentor and support MICs, coaches and support staff to ensure professional and values-based program delivery.
- Oversee planning, scheduling and safe administration of all secondary sport operations, training and fixtures.
- Promote participation, wellbeing and excellence across all sports, encouraging inclusion and personal growth.
- Ensure compliance with College and association policies, including risk management and safeguarding.
- Manage budgets, staffing and facilities in consultation with the Director of Co-Curricular.
- Build strong relationships with students, staff, parents, alumni and external sporting associations.
- Lead and coordinate major sporting events, carnivals and presentation evenings.
- Ability to coordinate after-school training sessions and Saturday sport operations.
Essential Criteria
- A working understanding of, and commitment to the Catholic ethos of a School in the Edmund Rice tradition.
- Demonstrated understanding of appropriate behaviours and professional boundaries that reflect child safeguarding values in practice.
- For Teaching Applicants: Qualified Secondary Teacher (note subject/s you are qualified to teach) with NESA Accreditation and approval to teach in NSW.
- Extensive experience directing and coordinating large sporting activities and events in a school/youth environment.
- Demonstrated capacity to manage people, processes, and resources efficiently.
- High level of skills in organisation and communication.
- Current First Aid Certificate and CPR Certificate.
Desirable Criteria
- Extensive experience operating programs for competition in NSW school sport associations.
- Experience with IT co-curricular software and applications (e.g. Clipboard, TASS).
- Tertiary qualifications (or working towards) in Sport or Management related fields.
- High level of skills in administration and data management.
