As a Specialist Teacher, you will be responsible for facilitating the academic and social development of students with special needs, ensuring an inclusive and supportive learning environment aligned with the College’s learning program and values. The role combines expertise in Special Education and Curriculum KLAs, requiring a blend of specific skills, patience, and creativity to assess learning needs and adapt teaching methods and materials to each student’s unique requirements in accordance with the NSW curriculum.

THE ROLE

Join our Tuncurry Campus in a critical role to help foster a safe and challenging learning environment for neurodiverse students.

Your key responsibilities will include:

  • Developing and implementing education programs that deliver an integrated curriculum
  • Adapt teaching practices and classroom interactions based on the individual learning needs of the students using reasonable adjustments.
  • Implement behaviour management strategies to establish and maintain positive teacher / student relationships
  • Engage in Restorative Practice, Trauma Informed Practice and Positive Behaviour for Learning models within the classroom.

ABOUT YOU

You continuously develop yourself in accordance with AITSL standards, demonstrate an unconditional positive regard for all students and maintain open and positive communication with both students and their families.

To succeed in this role, you will bring:

  • Appropriate tertiary qualifications and accreditation with the NSW Education Standards Authority (NESA) at the “Proficient” level.
  • A valid Working With Children Check (WWCC) and current National Police Certificate.
  • A current NSW Drivers’ Licence.
  • Have an excellent understanding of the NSW Curriculum and Syllabus.
  • A strong work ethic, high personal motivation, and attention to detail.
  • Able to work well under pressure as part of a team
  • Responsible, efficient, resilient and flexible
  • Affinity with the values and principles of the Uniting Church of Australia.
