Preschool Teaching Assistants

Blue Gum Community School is a small extended-hours Preschool (3 -5 year olds) and a Primary School in Hornsby NSW. Small classes enable educators to personalise the program, so that students are enthusiastic participants in real-life research projects offering powerful learning experiences. Blue Gum’s beautiful heritage-listed building and gardens offer magical environments that inspire educators and students alike. While students’ wellbeing and learning are at the heart of our work, equally important is developing a strong sense of community among families, educators and students. Regular encounters with Music, Visual Art, Drama and Dance invite creativity; while Scientific investigations and immersion in Nature trigger deep thinking and theorising about the world around them. Educators and students also relish venturing offsite together, as they explore the broader community.

  • Certificate III in Early Childhood or, Diploma in Children’s Services or, studying towards an early childhood qualification.

QUALITIES WE ARE LOOKING FOR…

  • Educators who see children as incredibly competent, capable, creative, responsible, resourceful, + resilient (rather than helpless or cute!), and therefore nurture these capabilities.
  • A keen observer/listener – to students and colleagues – whether to their words or their body language or their actions, to consider how best to respond.
  • Educators willing to contribute ideas and skills, as well as take onboard the suggestions of others… including students!
  • A lifelong learner who values each day afresh as an opportunity to learn alongside others, whether being mentored by highly-qualified experienced colleagues or co-researching with students.
  • A good understanding of the Early Years Learning Framework and National Quality Framework.
  • People committed to respectful communication and interactions, to build a strong sense of community.
  • A positive mindset and willingness to ‘have a go’ and model reasonable risk-taking with students.
  • Passionate people who love life (its lows as well as its highs), and think that journeying alongside young children is the best possible job in the world!
