Governance Consultant

AISNSW is the peak body supporting and representing over 400 Independent schools in NSW and provides a range of services across NSW and ACT. We believe in the excellence that comes with choice, diversity and independence in education.

We are looking for an experienced governance professional to join our expert team and partner with school boards across the Independent schools sector in NSW. In this high-impact role, you will support and advise board chairs and principals, deliver professional learning, and guide boards through strategic and performance reviews.

Here is what you’ll do:

  • Provide expert advice to board chairs, principals, and senior leaders on constitutions, risk, governance policy and practice and compliance
  • Deliver engaging governance workshops and learning programs, in-person and online on issues such as conflicts of interest, risk management, child safeguarding and cyber security
  • Lead and contribute to board performance and strategic reviews, delivering high-impact, confidential reports and insights
  • Support regulatory engagement and the coordination of an annual Governance Symposium
    Partner with experienced colleagues in an intellectually rewarding, collaborative environment

About You:

  • Strong foundation in governance, ideally with experience in or with boards (paid or voluntary)
  • Background in law, education, business, or a related field
    Completion of AICD, GIA, or equivalent governance training (highly regarded)
  • Skilled communicator and facilitator, confident working with board chairs, principals and CEOs
  • Experience delivering professional advice, reviews, or strategic support at the executive or board level
  • Discreet and credible
  • Willingness to travel across metropolitan Sydney and to NSW regional areas.
  • Availability and willingness to regularly work on weekends and weeknights
