General Hand

We are currently seeking a permanent, full-time General Hand to complete the building, maintenance and repair of School facilities. This may include ground maintenance, installing cupboards and whiteboards, handling deliveries, driving to hardware stores and maintaining School vehicles.

 

What You Will Do 
* Assist with repairs and maintenance works on School property
* Set-up and remove function and events equipment
* Operate plant and equipment to perform tasks
* Daily and routine maintenance tasks
* Assist other workers (including subcontractors and suppliers) to complete repairs as needed
* Conduct risk assessments and provide input to the creation of Safe Work Method Statements (SWMS)
* Conduct work in accordance with Work Health and Safety (WHS) legislation and Ascham procedures
* Attend relevant training courses
* Perform other duties as required.

 

What You Will Bring 
* General knowledge of building maintenance and construction practices and methods
* Demonstrated ability to understand the extent of work required for maintenance work requests
* Knowledge of the materials and tools used in building and landscaping work
* Ability to read plans, sketches and maintenance work order requests
* Ability to prioritise, multitask and meet service KPIs
* Ability to problem solve and design temporary work arounds to minimise impact on school activities
* Excellent attention to detail, and ability to work to a high standard
* Strong written and verbal communication skills
* Ability to follow instructions, work unsupervised and be a cooperative team member
* Understanding of and commitment to WHS legislation and risk management principles
* A valid Working with Children Clearance (WWCC) and First Aid certificate (or willingness to obtain).
