Ascham Junior School is looking for a newly qualified Primary Teacher, or a teacher education student in their final year of study, for a 0.6 Graduate Assistant Teacher position commencing Term 1, 2025. The Teacher Assistant would work under the direct supervision of the Coordinator of Learning Enhancement P-6, supporting students and teachers in our Junior School (Prep-Year 6).
The role will involve working alongside the Learning Enhancement (LE) team to support individual students and those in small groups. Over the course of the year, the successful candidate will have increasing opportunities to work alongside experienced teachers, oversee individual and small group programs, engage supervised teaching, and participate in assessment activities. Professional development experiences will be available, and regular termly meetings will be held to assess and discuss professional learning as well as individual teaching objectives.
Starting in Term 1, the role will be a fixed term position for the 2025 school year. For the right candidate, this position can be flexible, with the 0.6 hours being conducted across the school week. There may also be opportunities for the successful candidate to complete casual teaching outside of the Graduate Assistant Teacher hours across the Junior School.

· Conduct student assessments
· Assist in preparing resources to support student learning
· Provide verbal and written feedback to the LE Team and classroom teachers on students’ learning
· With teacher guidance, examine assessments and discuss students’ needs
· Participate in professional development and compliance training
· Additional administrative tasks
What you have to do to succeed
· Work with small groups and individuals, providing timely feedback to the LE Team where necessary
· Demonstrate some understanding of effective strategies for differentiating teaching to meet the specific learning needs of students, seeking feedback when unsure discuss and set learning goals that provide achievable challenges for students of varying abilities and characteristics
· Follow planned lesson sequences using knowledge of student learning, content and effective teaching strategies.
· Demonstrate a capacity to interpret student assessment data to evaluate student learning and, with discussions with the LE Team, suggest how to modify teaching practice
· Evaluate and provide verbal feedback on teaching programs
· Follow a timetable, respond to emails in a professional and timely manner and have a good working knowledge of ICT
· Positively and proactively contribute to the life of the School, including playground duties, camps and excursions
Mandatory requirements of this role:
· Appropriate teaching qualifications in a primary education course
· Evidence of teaching practicums
· A sound knowledge of the literacy and numeracy K-6 NESA syllabus and an ability to plan for and implement authentic assessment that informs teaching and learning
· A strong commitment to student wellbeing and to meeting students’ social and emotional needs
· Demonstrated excellence in communication and writing skills
· Well-developed time management and organisational skills
· Willingness to develop as a teacher
· A current First Aid and CPR certificate and a valid Working with Children Clearance
