We have a wonderful opportunity for an experienced teacher to join our Technologies and STEM team, working closely with the Mathematics and Science faculties to drive cross-disciplinary STEM education.

The Head of STEM will guide our team in developing innovative programs that empower students and support our dedicated teachers. In this dynamic role, you’ll create innovative, industry-driven programs, connect students with industry and foster meaningful partnerships that enrich learning experiences. You will ignite curiosity through developing hands-on programs, fostering an environment where exploration and creativity thrive is one of the foundations of this role. As a key member of our Head Teacher team, you will drive the creation of cutting-edge curriculum that aligns with current industry trends, ensuring that our students are equipped with the skills and thinking required for the future of work in Industry.

About the role
Commencing in January 2026, this role offers an exciting opportunity to focus on developing transformative programs, building strong relationships, and assembling a dedicated team before we open the new STEAM building in 2027.

As the Head of STEM at Mount Annan Christian College, you will have a key leadership role in developing, implementing, and leading all STEM-related programs within the school. Your teaching responsibilities will be within the Technologies Faculty, including the ability to teach classes up to the HSC level. You will collaborate closely with the Mathematics, Science, and Technologies Faculties to develop an integrated STEM curriculum and provide innovative learning opportunities for students.

As we embark on this journey, you will play a key role in shaping our educational offerings and creating a collaborative environment that inspires both students and educators. This role will focus on developing programs that equip students with the skills and knowledge necessary to thrive in an ever-evolving job market, fostering critical thinking, collaboration, and creativity. You will help bridge the gap between education and industry, ensuring our programs are relevant and responsive to the demands of tomorrow’s workforce.

Your leadership will be instrumental in laying the groundwork for a thriving educational community that prioritises innovation and real-world relevance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Leadership in STEM: Provide strategic leadership for STEM programs across the College, ensuring that the curriculum aligns with the school’s vision and values.
  • Curriculum Development: Work collaboratively with the Mathematics, Science, and Technologies faculties to design and deliver a cross-curricular STEM program that fosters creativity, critical thinking, and problem-solving.
  • Teaching Responsibilities: Teach Design and Technology or another TAS subject within the Technologies Faculty, including HSC-level courses, ensuring a high standard of teaching and learning that engages and inspires students.
  • Interdisciplinary Projects: Coordinate and implement interdisciplinary STEM projects that integrate Technology with Mathematics and Science, offering students a comprehensive learning experience.
  • STEM Events & Competitions: Organize school-wide STEM events, competitions, and extracurricular activities beyond school, that encourage students to explore STEM fields outside the classroom.
  • Professional Development: Lead and support STEM faculties in the ongoing professional development of teaching practices related to STEM education.
  • Partnerships & Real-World Connections: Build partnerships with industry professionals, universities, and external organizations to provide real-world learning experiences for students.
  • Program Evaluation: Regularly assess the effectiveness of STEM programs, using feedback and data to inform continuous improvement in both teaching and student outcomes.

Desirable Skills

  • Experience with emerging technologies in Design and Technology, such as CAD software, 3D printing, or robotics.
  • Ability to integrate Technologies with Mathematics and Science to create meaningful, real-world learning experiences.
  • Familiarity with STEM-related assessment practices and strategies for evaluating student growth.
  • Experience in leading a faculty and large-scale school events or competitions.

More specifically, the candidate will have the ability to:

  • Demonstrate highly developed interpersonal and communication skills, and ability to build and maintain excellent relationships with staff, students and parents
  • Model, promote and represent the College’s Vision, Mission and Values.
  • Contribute to an innovative educational direction that exists within the College
  • Differentiate in the classroom to promote growth for each individual student
  • Demonstrate comprehensive knowledge of the curriculum and assessment
  • Implement digital literacy with regard to application of pedagogy
  • Present appropriate tertiary qualifications, including teaching qualifications
  • Assent to the College’s Statement of Faith

NESA Accreditation and a current Working With Children Check (WWCC) is required.
