Wellbeing Officer (0.4 FTE – 2 days per week)

TLK Youth College, a division of Tuggerah Lakes Community College Limited, is a registered and accredited non-government special assistance high school. We are a non-political and non-religious institution that provides inclusive, flexible learning pathways for young people who have experienced challenges in mainstream education.

Our school supports students from Years 9 to 12, offering an adult learning environment that fosters independence, mutual respect, responsibility, and a genuine love of learning. We utilise a trauma-informed, student-centred approach designed to re-engage and empower young people across the Central Coast.

The Role
We are currently seeking a compassionate, qualified, and experienced Wellbeing Officer to join our dedicated team. This is a part-time role (0.4 FTE, two days per week), commencing at the beginning of Term 3, 2025, or as soon as practicable.

The Wellbeing Officer will play a key role in enhancing the social, emotional, and mental wellbeing of our students. Collaborating closely with educators, families, and external support services, the successful candidate will help foster a safe, supportive, and nurturing environment that promotes student growth and wellbeing.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide individual and group support to students, focusing on their social, emotional, and mental health needs
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of student wellbeing and support plans
  • Collaborate with families and external agencies to provide holistic support for students, including referrals to counselling or other support services when necessary
  • Provide immediate support for students in emotional distress, ensuring a safe and supportive environment
  • Promote a positive school culture that prioritises wellbeing, inclusion, and respect

Essential Criteria

  • Qualifications in youth work, psychology, social work, counselling or a related field
  • Experience working with young people, particularly those experiencing disadvantage or disengagement
  • Sound knowledge of trauma-informed practice, adolescent development, and mental health
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and problem-solving skills
  • Competency in using technology to support wellbeing practices and documentation
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a cohesive, multidisciplinary team
  • Commitment to ongoing professional development

Desirable Attributes

  • Experience in an alternative education or school-based setting
  • Understanding of case coordination and referral pathways
  • A calm, empathetic, and strengths-based approach to student support

Additional Requirements

Applicants must satisfy Child Protection Legislation, hold a current Working with Children number and will be subject to a Working with Children Check.

Remuneration will be in accordance with the Independent Schools NSW (Professional and Operational Staff) Cooperative Multi-Enterprise Agreement 2025.
